Should you really be in a rush to pay off your mortgage?
Paying off your home sounds great.. But I’ve also seen people pay off their mortgage, only to turn around later and borrow against the equity with a HELOC when life happens.
My perspective is simple: don’t become so focused on paying off the mortgage that you forget to live your life or solve the problems you have today.
Things change. Circumstances change. And sometimes the equity you’ve built in your home can become a tool when you need it.
That doesn’t mean paying off your mortgage is a bad idea. Everyone’s financial situation and goals are different. It just means there’s more than one way to look at it.
What do you think — pay the mortgage off as quickly as possible, or keep the flexibility?

Accessing home equity through a HELOC, home equity loan, cash-out refinance, or other financing involves borrowing against your property and may increase your debt and monthly financial obligations. Failure to repay a loan secured by your home could result in foreclosure. Homeowners should carefully consider the costs, risks, alternatives, and their individual financial circumstances before borrowing against home equity.
