Capital A Bhd and AirAsia Group Bhd shares fell nearly five per cent after reports that the Finance Ministry had appointed an adviser to assess the aviation group’s funding needs.

Capital A fell 4.84 per cent to 29.5 sen, while AirAsia Group dropped 4.96 per cent to 67 sen, with both among Bursa Malaysia’s most actively traded counters.

The development comes as the group seeks up to US$1 billion in international debt and RM700 million in local credit facilities.

AirAsia said the fundraising is mainly for debt restructuring, refinancing and balance sheet consolidation, including replacing costly pandemic-era borrowings with longer-term, lower-cost debt.

Year to date, Capital A has fallen 28.04 per cent, while AirAsia Group has plunged 62.7 per cent.
